YTers,

I need help tuning a miss out of a Farmall A. I never was a great mechanic, just a parts changer, and I've forgotten anything I ever knew about conventional ignition and fuel systems. The A has a subtle miss at any throttle setting unless it is under load. In a pull, it sounds good. I replaced the cap, rotor and plug wires in the course of the restoration; took the carb apart and set the float level and cleaned it up. Fiddled with the timing. Nothing has helped. Any suggestions before I start throwing parts at it?
Thanks,
Bill

You might have to check all the valves.I took mine to a machine shop and he replaced all the valves and seats because of years of running unleaded gas.

BILL - I had the same problem with my IA and went thru everything even changed the carb and the dist.

Finally checked the valves and found that I had one valve that was not adjusted quite right and it was not closing completely.

Hope this helps

GOOD LUCK

You did not mention anything about replacing the points or the spark plugs. Both can cause fits if acting up. They are a cheap fix to finish your tune up. Fred.

check the point gap on all the distributer lobes. you may have one lobe of the dist.worn when the other three are in good shape.
