F-14 fuel pump rebuild

I need some help, I took my pump apart to "kit it" now I'm not sure which way the "check valves" go above the upper housing. I have it as the valve sticks up on the inlet side and the other down on the fuel strainer side. Also have a picture to send someone willing to help.
Thanks,

There are at least three different styles of check valve for the F-12/F-14 fuel pump. Probably the easiest thing to do is to blow through the pump after you have it done (and sediment bowl back in place). You should be able to blow thru the pump if you put your mouth (or pressure nozzle) on the inlet port. You should NOT be able to blow thru the pump if you put air on the pump outlet.

Or just do some thinkin'. The fuel flow must push the check valve off its seat against spring resistance. So the spring goes on the 'low pressure' side of the system.

don't remember having any trouble with that. can't you just look at it and tell which way the fuel needs to flow? I have spare pumps I could tear apart.

I'll try to figure it out, it's not a big deal I guess, just thought if someone had one apart and could tell me for sure, it would help. You don't have to tear one of yours apart.
Thanks
