There is a 424 advertised locally. Found a little useful information in this board's archives but over four hundred hits so way too much to read them all.

Am I correct that 1) Live PTO
2) Catagory one three point
3) Wide Front end
4) Power Steering Optional
5) Around thirty eight horsepower
6) Torque Amplifiers are trouble

Anything to look for or look out for when I go out to check it--heck any help appreciated. I know a little about 8n's but this is my first look at an IH. All help appreciated.

Great little tractor. I have a gas 424 with factory power steering. Constant running pto with two stage clutch. Live hydraulics. Dual range transmission. TA was not available. Category 1 3 pt. 36 hp.

Don't assume it has live pto, they made some without live pto and some with a two stage clutch too. Mine has a non-live with two speed pto, 540 in trans low range and over 1000rpm in trans high range. Check it out first. But mine is a nice little utility gas/power steering.

I have a 424 diesel. Heck of a nice little tractor. Has no TA, has a lever for high or low, which is a mechanical range shift lever, NOT TA. Has add-on power steering, with CharLynn torque motor. Mine SUCKS in this respect. I think the diesel was 37 PTO HP.
