Is it possible for hydrolic fluid to leak into the engine oilpan on a Super C? I changed the motor oil in back in the spring, I check the oil before every use and figured it should use a little oil. I have never had to add any oil, so I opened the upper cockpit to check the oil and just let it drain until to stopped. It drain about two quarts of black oil,no water, hydrolic fluid possibly. I wonder how long I have been running it like this.Have I damaged the engine running it like this and what is the fix?? Thanks for any advice.

CNKS has it rite that is the way to fix the problem. As long as you use 30wt oil in the hy its no big deal just drain it off at the top petcock BUT you dont want to run the pump dry either.

I believe the older farmalls used 30wt non-detergant motor oil in their hyd systems.

The H and M used 30W non-detergent. The Cub, Super A and C used Touch Control fluid, the predecessor to Hy-Tran. I suppose 30W will work in the Touch Control, 10W is probably better, but will dilute the motor oil.

Common problem, I wouldn't worry about the engine unless it starts giving problems. Remove the hydraulic pump, and you will find either an o-ring or a seal on the shaft that goes to the gear that engages the cam gear. Might as well replace the other seals and gaskets at the same time. If the shaft has a seal replace it, and use a speedy sleeve if the shaft is grooved (about $25 from a bearing place). If it is an o-ring and you have a groove, you either need to have the shaft rebuilt by someone who knows what they are doing, or enlarge the hole the shaft goes through and then use a speedy sleeve. If you have the shaft rebuilt, it needs to be done without too much heat, so as not to lose the temper and possibly cause breakage. There are procedures for that. Mine had an o-ring, and I had the machine shop enlarge the hole in the housing and use a speedy sleeve. Haven't used the tractor much since, far as I know it isn't leaking.
