Did the points on my H. I filled the recess on the post with grease, packed some on both sides of the rubbbing block and put a skim coat on the cam, should I do anything more? I use a dielectric grease, is that ok? Thanks.

If the 2:1 gear reduction piece that you removed to get to the points on your H4 magneto had a greasy dust film on the outside of it, I recommend you clean it and grease the gears in it too. If, by using the term "dielectric grease, you're referring to the grease that comes with an electronic ignition module, don't use it in a mag. You are looking for good lubrication properties, not insulation and heat transfer which is what dielectric grease is for. Also be careful around the points with grease. More isn't always better.

sounds like too much grease. wipe off part of it. Generaly just put it on one side of the block, the side that the cam rotates toward.

John, I use a silicone grease. I live in an area of high humidity at times and this grease doesn't seem to be affected by moisture. It also has the ability to tolerate high temperatures for an extended period of time. The tube I have says Syl-Glide on it. It came from a nearby auto parts store.
