When I try to start my Super C and pull the starter rod, it appears that there is contact between the butten that gets pushed in on the copper bolt but NO CONTACT on the copper tab on the starter which does not engage the starter. Any suggestions.....

Being as how this part does not cost that much, and coud possiby eave you stranded out in the field if you have to shut the tractor down, I would vote for replacing it. Your local Tractor Supply Company should have one on the shelf. These things aren't like big Deere's where you can short across the solenoid terminals with a screwdriver if they fail. However, anyone reading this and getting the idea to short across those terminals, MAKE SURE THE TRACTOR IS IN "P" PARK OR IN NEUTRAL WITH THE BRAKES LOCKED BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS!!!! That being said, some of those old willy's jeeps had solenoids with a button on the top that would close the solenoid if the electric portion failed. That's just an example of an idea that died with the advent of lawyers. Just my $.02

I had this problem on my 1950 C. It was a worn copper button on the starter. The button is on the starter under the switch and is what the switch makes contact with. Take your starter to a starter/generator repair shop and they can put a new button on it for you.

Make sure that the copper button on the starter isn't wore off so much that the switch contact block can't reach it.

That contact on the switch is supposed to be loose so that it will swivel slightly and contact both posts. It might be rusted tight. At any rate, for a small price, you can replace the switch, which might be better.

The switch is not working now, so try to repair it before buying a new one.
Disconnect the battery ground, disconnect the cable on the switch, remove the switch from the starter and disassemble it.
Clean, file the contacts, and reassemble.
This is half the fun of restoring tractors; trying to make something work again like it used to.
