My 300U ran great until some junk from the gas tank plugged up "something". The inside of the tank is now beautiful, the gas flows freely to the carb, the strainer is clean, and I have replaced the needle and seat but cannot get the carb adjusted so this tractor will run. It either floods or does not get enough gas. I have looked at the books, measured the level till I am red in the face, taken this thing apart at least 20 times, and still cannot get this baby to start.

I have run out of patience and need inspiration, help, or a vacation!! I am even considering getting one of those green tractors!! Any ideas? Thanks.

Dennis, With your carb off the tractor, hold it level and blow thru the inlet for the gas with your mouth. Then turn it upside down and do the same , upside down you should not be able to blow air. Also shake the carb alittle up next to your ear and listen for movement.. Good Luck. Tim K.

How about fishing line through all the orfices?
Or compressed air?
Carb to intake gasket?

Just some thoughts !

I had the same problem and through pure blundering finally figured out that the float had gotten spread just a little and was touching one side of the bowl enough to stop it's free movement. Same tractor. Jason

I can tell you what happened to me. I did what you did, but not 20 times, maybe 5. I found that the previous owner didn't crimp the keepers down to hold the float in place. Without the keepers in place, the pin falls down on one side and the float gets way out of adjustment.

If you buy a green one, you will have to go to a different forum!!

Do you still have good spark??
Is the intake manifold gasket in good shape??
If the engine won't even "pop", try putting a teaspoon of gasoline directly into the spark plug holes (remove the plugs first). You should put some engine oil in the cylinders first because all the attempted starting has dried out the cylinders and you have very poor compression not to mention the wear dry rings cause on dry cylinders.
Put the plugs back in, attach the plug wires, and see if it will start for a moment.
