Can anyone tell me something about this tractor.I've been looking at one. It's yellow has a front end loader, gas engine, power steering.Owner wasn't happy with it,no traction. The loader is really heafty. It has turf tires on it right now.Ser#03535.I think they were made 1964-67.Whats the diffence in a 424 and 2424.Are parts interchangable.Any info would be great, thank you! Will

I have a 2444 pretty much the same as your 2424. Mine has a 2050 loader, came from IH that way. Filled rear R1 tires and about 1500 lbs steel plates on a bracket hanging on the back. Does good with all of that on it. I can lift about 2,000 lbs with it now. But without that weight in the tires and on the back it would be front heavy and spin a lot. It's a big loader for a small tractor. I have a friend that has the same tractor with no loader and tires not weighted. He rolls hay and stuff with it ok with no traction problems.

This is an industrial version of the 424. Many of the parts will interchange. Same engine I believe. Really useless for jobs that require traction unless you can put a lot of weight on the rear end. The loader being so heavy only makes that worse. Have heard mixed reviews over the years on these little tractors. Some like them, some hate them. Not much middle ground.

Chuck, have you ever had one of these?I thought if I bought it I'd get new ag tires first.I'm not crazy about loading tires.I was hoping to one day find a 3pt backhoe for it.But that will be awhile.I'll still need to use it till then.Any idea what they are worth, and how to get around the traction thing without loading tires.thanks Will

Will- I have never owned a 424, been around a couple in the shop and other tractors in that series. By loading tires I assume you mean fluid. Most of the ag tractors around here used fluid and it was not enough, these tractors are very light over the rear wheels. My dad had a 674 on the farm with fluid and wheel weights,it still spun like crazy. His old 340 was a much better tractor for loader work even though it had much less HP. If he wanted to use the loader to dig a hole he would pick up a round bale or hang suitcase weights thru the 3 pt.There's no way around the traction problem that I know of other than adding weight in some form to hold the rear end down. With common sense you won't hurt it.
