Just towed home an H farmall that was given to me,and it dosn`t have the serial number tag on it.Is there any way of knowing when the tractor was made?I have A 1948 H an I can see some things that are different. The one that I just brought home, has A mag,and the starter butten is mounted behind the light bar post and is foot actavited. There is also A factory made hole in the hood between the temp gauge and the gas cap.
Any help appreciated,Don.

You have a distillate or kerosene engine (if original). The hole was for the filler neck of a small gas tank. You started and warmed it up on gasoline and switched over to kerosene or distillate in the main tank.

Sounds like an early 40's, which the engine serial number stamped on the milled boss just above or below (I don't remember which) the number one spark plug, matched the tractor ser. number. Also casting dates will clue you in on the date the castings were molded. They will look like this: 3*16*J, the J standing for 1940, K for 1941 etc.
