I'm a regular over on the 9n/2n/8n sub.. but just recently picked up what was described as a 51 cub.

Here is a pic. I've been told that it is not a 51 due to some of the options, so if you guys can point me inthe right direction, I would appreciate it.

I guess I need to find the location o fthe serial number, and then get an I&T manual. I stopped at tractor supply, anbd they had two manuals that might be correct, depending on the year.. one was the ih 8.. and went to 1957.. the other was an ih 50

Didn't know which to get, so am now here asking questions.

Feel free to email me if you would like.

thanks

Looks like a '63 or '64 if it says Farmall on the side of the hood. In August of '63 they changed to the "Square" type front grille. First serial # for '63 was 222501. The paint scheme on yours is not original as they were either all red or creme and yellow. There's a lot of information on these likeable little tractors at Link

the serial # plate is on the steering gear housing. from the shape of the grille, i'd say it was from the 504/806 era, early-mid 60s. i'm also wondering if it is a cub loboy rather than a cub? loboys say "international" on the hood, cubs say "farmall". i can't tell from your picture. it will tell on the serial plate.

Ok, unde rthe serial number info, under international /farmall, I choses cub, and the serial number looks like it falls as a real early 1966.. first sn for 1966 was 227209, while mine is 227381... so most likely first couple weeks or at least first month of 66, etc.

Do you concur.. or am I looking at the wrong unit.

I'm still at a loss for the right I&T manual... the back o fthe book didn't look like it listed one just for the cub past 1957... what should I be looking for?

i need to get some care and feeding instructions.

thanks for all your help guys.. it is much appreciated!

i'd say you were reading the list correctly, and its a 1966 cub, but not a loboy. i didn't realize that the later cubs said international on the hood. my 1957 loboy has "international cub" on the hood, and "loboy" on a separate plate. i don't know what i&t manual to look for.

Thanks. I looked all over to see if there were any other idintification plates.. but only found an IH plate on the mower. So I guess it is 'just' a 1966 CUB... Now the search for manuals.

Again, thanks for the help

I'll start a new thread to gather some info now that I have a model and year pinned down.

Ok guys, thanks for the great ideas and info... here is what I found.

The plaque on the side of the hood looks original, as it looks like they took great care to mask it off and paint around it. It says International Cub

I did find a serial number plate in the vicinity of the steering gear box.. was almost completely painted over.. but the paint was thinn enough to read through..

said International corp, chicago ill.

model international cub
sn 227381 J ( The numbers in the serial number all looked uniform.. the 'J' looked hand stamped, and was much deeper imprinted in the plate.

Ideas? info? Now I need to figure out which I&T manual to get for it. Looks like my instincts were right about not getting the ih-8.. as it only went to '57.

Thanks

Find your serial no. and click on the serial number link to the left and under International and Farmall ...then cub you should be able to locate. Definitely not a 51, I can't say for sure but closer to 61? Someone more familiar to the cubs can point you in the right direction to find the number.

When I clicked up this forum and saw your post, I thought I was on the wrong forum.
I've been "running" over here for awhile instead of the 9N,2N and 8N board.
I picked up a Farmall C in June and have been over here trying to "get educated"

Same here....love my 2N, but am on a quest to get one of every color. My red one is a 42 BN, which I will refurbish this fall. Next will be a Allis CA if I'm lucky, then a JD M etc. Can't have enough. I used to own a AC CA,an AC B a JD L. Wouldn't trade any of them for my 2N, but I like em all in there own little ways.

Take Care
Steve
