Another Starter Question

Because of my curiosity, I am the proud new owner of a rebuilt starter (I broke the bushings in mine when I removed it to see if I could clean it and decided to have it rebuilt rather than just repaired). But, as I told my wife, it was the best thing that could have happened. It needed to be rebuilt as everything was old and crackly inside - ever try that one?

Question is: When I go to put it back on the tractor, are there any tricks or secrets that I need to know? Or can I just put it on and bolt it down? I didn't know if there was anything I needed to worry about with making sure the gears match up or if it wouldn't go in unless they were matched up. It is an M.

Thanks for any help.

Kevin, That starter should slide right in and bolt in with no problems at all. One thing to check on while the starter is off is wear on the teeth on the flywheel ring gear. I thought I was having a problem with the bendix in the starter on mine but found out the problem I was having was from a worn ring gear.

I think you will find that it slides in very easily. Tighten the bolts evenly and make sure all of your wires are in good shape. Clean the contact spots and fire it up. good luck
