Are these a good machine? I've never been around one but I have been around a 706 with a 310 german dsl in it and thought it was a outstanding engine but started a little hard. Looking at it for a planter tractor on 160 acres.

Yes the 826 is a good unit. Doesn't like cold weather starting but a block heater will cure any winter starting trouble And get use to using the primer position on the pull cable under normal conditions when starting. We bought a used one 28 yrs ago. The tack only says it has 5000 hour on it for the last 15 years. But it most likely has twice that many hours on it now.

It does mostly litter work these days. We use 1066's for the heavy work. But if it does nead to pull something it can still do it like a 15ft no-till drill and cart in H-1's all day long. I don't know how that little 6 cylinder german does it but it still has guts after that many hours.

great tractor. My dad had the hydro which was great for PTO implements that required a lot of ground speed changes.

The hydro was week for heavy drawbar work. The gear version is better for this

I spent alot of time on my neighbors 756 with the D310..... ....I also ran my grandfather 826 with the D358 for a time. Their isn't any question about it those Krauts could really build an engine! If you like the D310(I like them so much I want to be buried with a D310 ;-p) you'll love the D358! Someone must like them! At a sale last year an 826 with the D358 brought $9K!
