I'm trying to compose a list of parts/supplies I need to get for my "C" for the day when I start assembling the engine.(113cid)
I searched the archives for a post on oil filters but can't seem to find a part#
I'm not real confident in the local auto store's counter guy's ability to look up things for "older machines". I'd rather know what I'm looking for when I go in the door.

Would someone that knows or has a filter cross reference list give me some info.

I tried to look at the old filter and it wasn't a name I'd ever heard of nor could I find any kind of number on it.

While I'm asking questions, what is a substitute for IH Hy Tran for the hydraulics?

I have an owner's manual but it isn't any help.....guess I need to order another book.

Thanks !

Gary the part number that I have in my C parts manual for the element(s) are
63855D for the umbrella type and 355009R91 for the radial fin type and
the part number for the filter case gasket is 13728D

Yeah...I guess you guys are right...a 90 mile trip through the mountains to a local Case/IH dealer for an oil filter "ain't bad" if it prevents me from using some "off brand" like NAPA or WIX or something.

West Virginia isn't exactly the home of Case/International.....as a matter of fact, I don't think it's home to much of anything----smile---

Actually, there use to be several different tractor dealers around, but since this isn't really "farm country" where I live, they have have all left.....along with all the little Mom and Pop stores, corner barber shops, etc.

Oil filter 376374R91 $4.35. Why would want to find a substitute for Hy Tran?

I stand amazed at the folks who spend all the time and effort to bring their old iron into a usable state and then buy cheap filters, points, plugs, etc. Go to your local CIH dealer and buy the correct parts. For the most part, these guys know more about these old tractors than we could ever dream of learning. Most folks don't mind going to their dealer to ask questions but go to the discount stores for parts...Common guys.....

I don't remember the number but NAPA carries the filter, they look it up by the engine, which is a Continental 113. 30 weight nondetergent motor oil works well in the touch control hyd system.

A's, B's C's & Super A's (except for the last few Super A's) all have C-113 engines, they are IH's own engines, not Continentals. (IH did use a Continental in its 350 diesels, though.) Filter is the same one for all, as well as the the C-123's & H's with the short filter. The Fram # is C-135, if you don't like Frams, you can cross reference it. BTW, I've been using Frams for years, w/o any problems. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

jal SD, The Super A had the shorter filter than the A. The bell canister had to be shorter because of the hydraulic lines running over the top of oil filter. My 42 A has the longer filter and my 48 Super A had the shorter filter. Your NAPA dealer should carry both filters.

Close. Later A's had the same filter as the Super A, etc. I don't know when they changed, maybe in 1944-45?

There are some things I insist on being "genuine" IH and some things it doesn't matter to me. I think filters probably fall into the "don't care" category, though most of the time I end up with genuine filters. If Fram, Baldwin, Wix or whoever didn't make a good filter, you'd have heard about them going out of business long before now. When we re-did my Super A, we used almost exclusively parts from NAPA--sleeve sets, bearings, etc. Most of the brand names ended up being Perfect Circle. The quality was just as good and IH, and when you price a Fire Crater sleeve and piston kit from IH, it's easy to justify "off brand" stuff!

My $.02
Al

Thanks jal-SD,
that'll give me some place to start.....
I found some places on the net to cross reference, but you had to have a filter number to start with to cross to other makers.
