I have a 56 Farmall 400 Diesel. The front grill and a portion of the side panels are white. My Dad bought this tractor in the early 60s, and I'm sure he never repainted it. My question is, should they be white? I have had two comments that they should be all red. Any response appreciated.

Some dealers offered repainting programs as part of a service package. They would often repaint the 300-400 series tractors with the "new" paint style on the 350s and 450s.

I believe the other messages to you...but I have some reservations about them being 100% true.
If the 400F followed the 300 series, the some of late models had white grilles and side panels.
In looking thru some old Farmall books I have, it shows a late 300U with the white trim. I always thought the 300U was all red and the 350U had the white trim.
Anyway...look and see if it is painted or if it is a decal on the hood. If it's a decal it is more than likely orginal. The factory put the decal on, the rest were painted by someone.
Make it the way you want it...that's the important thing...my 2 cents worth.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't the 300 Utility a IH and not the Farmall version????? I maybe confused with the 460 IH utility and the 460 Farmall's.

Everything on a 400 was red except the rims and muffler which were silver and the dash panel was black.
