I want to buy a carburetor for my 1965(approx) Farmall 140 tractor. Alpha Tractor Services lists two(2) rebuilt carburetor for the 140. One says for OEM C113,C123 engine and the other says for OEM 11115. How do I tell which one to get?
The problem with my existing is I have to run tractor with choke out to keep it running. I have tried soaking carburetor in cleaner but has made no difference. Suspect that carburetor is worn and would like to replace it. -JK

J.K.: My experience, much the same as others. Clean it out good and put a new rebuild kit in there. These didn't change a whole lot going all the way back to the A and Super A. Many of those are still orignal.

Same deal for me. Had to run my 140 with the choke pulled out. I had a mechanic friend soak the carb for 4 days in the cleaner. He then put a re-build kit in it. Put the carb on the 140 last weekend and it ran like new with the choke all the way open. Make sure you are not sucking air around the carb to manifold gasket. Best of luck....Gerald

Completely disassemble your carburetor, soak it overnight, rinse with HOT water, blow it dry, naking sure that all passages are open, reassemble, making sure float height is correct. Also make sure you are getting sufficient gas flow to the carb. And last, make sure that there are no vacuum leaks. If you do all this, you will not need a new carb.

rusty has a good point. Make sure the screen in the elbow going into the carb where the fuel line connects is clear and you have good flow. You can also get blockage in the tank outlet where your sediment bowl connects. Been there and done that as well.

Not sure about which carb, but I had the same problem with my C which had the Carter UT and I finally cured it by soaking it and blowing out all passages with compressed air. Something was in there. Good luck.
