Joshua - I've had excellent luck obtaining seals from Kaman Industrial Technologies. They can cross IHC seal numbers with National or Chicago Rawhide equivalents. Prices are about 1/2 that of the CIH dealer, and they usually deliver in 1 - 2 days.

Hi Bob, Im just curious about those seals. Does Kaman sell the new style seals for the old Farmalls, or the old leather style? Im just wondering because Im getting ready to replace a bunch in my 49 Super A. The front crankshaft comes to mind since I just pulled the crank pulley the other day. I have bought seals from Case IH in the past but they are pricey!

Thanks
scotty

Hi Scotty – I’ve replaced a bunch of transmission/axle/brake shaft seals on my Farmalls and my MM “U”. Everything I’ve purchased thru Kaman has been the new, thinner viton(?) type. Seals have always fit and worked perfectly. Nice thing about the thinner seals is you can position them in the counterbore so the seal lip rides on an unworn section of the shaft – nice when the original seal has worn a significant groove into the shaft.

Note – One the couple of times I bought seals from C-IH, they’ve also been the new style. I kinda doubt anyone makes the old-style leather seals anymore.

Thanks Bob, Yes, I have bought some seals for my 42 A through Case IH and got the newer style seals. But I will try this outfit, the price break sounds good.

Thanks
scotty

Your Case-IH dealer can get them all. So can any good seal, bearing, etc store, provided they can cross reference the IH number. Otherwise they can probably still match them, provided you don't destroy them during removal. Case-IH is 50-100% higher on seals than my local bearing place -- the seals are the same, either National or Chicago Rawhide.
