I know that the valve seats in the head for an M are replaceable, question, what holds the originals in? Is it a press fit? or has some type of lock-tite been used? and how do I go about removing them?

Did anyone ever try a CO2 fire extinquisher ?
Give the valve seat a blast of CO2 from the fire extinquisher and then a sharp crack with hammer and punch.

I once told a Cop that I had bought special lug nuts for my expensive rims on my car. He just laughed and said the lug nuts weren't on the market for more than 2 months when some enterprising thief had came up with the CO2 solution. That is when he told me that the thieves spray the lug nut with a CO2 fire extinquisher and then hit it a sharp crack with a hammer and it shatters into a 1000 pieces.

Most inserts are press fit.

You can drill a small hole on each side of them (9 o'clock - 3 o'clock), and then using a small sharp chisel, finishing cracking it into 2 pieces.
Of course....be sure not to drill into the casting !

It sounds like that just might work, thank you.

Yes...it will work....but those inserts can be pretty hard..... ..it takes a good drill bit and care. I've done several that way in a machine shop that I worked in several years ago! Good luck !

I wondered about that, do you use a common HSS drill, or maybe a carbide bit?

I used a good quality regular bit. A drill press will help because with most hand drills you don't get a straight push on the bit and can break them easy since they are a smaller dia., but I have used both. I've also used heat from a torch a few times to lessen the temper of the seat insert.
