Removing the coupler on the hydraulic drive shaft?

I have a 1941 H. I have tried to turn the coupler counter-clockwise to remove it from the transmission so that I can replace the seals. After putting some serious torque on it, it will not move. Am I turning it the right way? If so, any suggestions on how to bust it loose? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

OL'H- I went through the same thing recently. Tried several combinations of pipe wrench/cheater bar/extension/etc. I finally broke down and read the service manual. Got a 1 ft long 3/4" brass rod and put it against the corner of the slot where the coupler fits. 2 smacks with the 3 lb sledge and it spun right off! It's amazing sometimes the service manual way really works!

You are turning it the correct direction, I used a large pipe wrench and a 2ft. cheater to break loose the one on my M.

You are turning it the right way. What I do is put tractor in gear, set brakes, take big hammer and punch and give it a big hit on the edge of slot, usually comes loose unless it has ben put on with lock tite, then you may have to heat it up some.
