I would like to hear the lineage of the F-20 with respect to major changes through its production run. I am interested in what features makes them most valuable etc. I have looked at a number of F-20's recently and there is a lot of difference in the tires and rims on them. What was the factory rim size for rubber, the most widely used rim for cutdowns and when did the spoke wheels come into being. Any help will be appreciated.

Here is what I know to look for in the F-20. tranny w/roadgear, wide front end, that alone is worth 4 times as much as the tractor, a good useable kerosen manifold, factory electric start, a high crop version is very rare too. An early model will also have a duck bill upper bolster. As far as wheels go its what ever you like. Ive got 3 20's and 1 has spokes, one has cast and the other Im looking for steel. Try and find a package deal, say 3 tractors for $500 as they are not worth much. That way you will have plenty of parts to make 1 possibly 2 tractors.

Factory round spoke wheels made by F&H came in 24,28 and 36 inch sizes. Also was a cast center, bolt on rim, similar to the H-M wheels,36" Have seen 24,26,28,36 and 38" rims used on cut-off wheels. These will have flat spokes as you have probably noticed. The larger sizes of wheels will not allow you as much pulling power, but will move faster. My own preferance is the 28" rim.The 36" rims can be run "in" as they will clear the brake asy.s and make the tread width much narrower and handier to haul on a trailer or truck.Hope this helps some!

Thanks Dave

IH must have changed the gear ratios on the 38,39 tractors to get the torque back in line with the older tractors with smaller rims. Do you know anything about this change?

No problem:

You just raised another point I would like to hear about. I walked into 18 for sale F-20's with a significant number of differances at a little more than what they are worth starting price and want to know what the differances are and how to come up with a value for purchase of one. I would say several have wheels on them about the size for an H and this has to mess up the final gear ratios and pulling power, but maybe that was good. I say one at a fair with road gear which was a separate box between the motor output drive and the transmission.

I want to hear from the experts and I am not one on F-20's

most had 36 inch tires. a few had 28. once in a while you will see 38s on cutoffs. I like the round spoke wheels. Watch for compleatness, ie, sterring cables, fuel lines for dual fuel, manifold we mentioned, belt pulley good PTO (some show a lot of wear) also look for wear at the drawbar pull points.

In simple answer to your question: Yes, it is a kerosene manifold.
