I have posted here about my H lift-all drive dog problem before , got some good advise but I still (Think?) I have a problem. I replaced the Trans seal so I took off the drive dog on that side. I put the drive dog on hand tight with the drive dog shaft fitting snug in between the drive dogs. Start up the tractor, pull the lift-all lever (no cylinder that works) to tighten it up but it gets looser instead? To me it doesn't seem right that I can shake the drive dog shaft, I am thinking that it will wear out with the drive dogs. Should that shaft be kind of tight? Any ideas? Thanks.

John I would tighten the drive dog more than hand tight, but it is right hand thread so it should get tight when you pull the lift leaver, don't understand why it is not. As for the drive having so play it should it is a shaft with a sleve on each end with a gotter pin through it to hold it in place. If you are asking about the drive dog on the transmission shaft by it's self after you put it on, no it should not have play and the bearing is bad could be why it does not tighten up.

If you can shake that shaft, then the bearing is wore out!Or are you not refering to the shaft coming out of the tranny.I also dont understand why youre only tightening the dog hand tight.Tighten it down good with a pipe wrench or something. If theres a bad gap in between the dog,the coupling and/or the pump dog, then maybe its already wore out and needs replacing.

The shafts in the Lift-all and transmission are tight. The loose shaft is the one in the 2 sliding cuplers with the cotter pins (between the drive dogs). The drive dogs are on the threaded shaft ok. If I screw the drive dog in more on the transmission side, it is further away from the other side , then I can shake the shaft even more. If I take the shaft out, both drive dogs are tight on their shafts and would need a pipe wrench to get them off. The shaft in between is the one I can shake. Thanks.
