Hello - A couple of questions about converting my 1947 "M" with a single front tire (tricycle)to a narrow front end with 2 tires:

1) If "M" hardware can't be found, would "H" narrow-front hardware fit instead?

2) How about 300-400 series narrow-fronts; if located, should these parts be identical to the "M"?

How difficult is the narrow-front hardware to locate and is shipping cost generally very high due to weight?

I think the bolt pattern is slightly different, although, I have heard of people drilling the H holes out to make it fit -- I don't think that is a good idea. 300, no. 400/450/maybe 560, yes. As Aces said, the axles/bearings may be different.

Ok, I've located a complete narrow-front bolster off an 'M' from a local tractor parts dealer. How easy or complicated is it to swap out my single tire to the narrow-front, since upper parts should bolt the same?

Both are held on by the same four bolts, nothing is different except one has one wheel, the other 2. Many people routinely change from one to the other.

You should try for M SM 400 560 706 BECAUSE the H 300 have smaller bearings.

The wheel bearings...The spindle diameter varies on these models. Even though the bolster may bolt up,,check the spindle size before you buy

Does anyone have the dimensions of the spindles? I am doing the same thing on an H. It is not as critical on the H if I have the heavier duty spindles, but it would be nice to know what front end I bought.

H/SH/300/350 lower bolster is a lot smaller and won't fit. Have to use M/SM/SM-TA/400/450 lower bolster. Everything is different....
