Last night I was trying to get the crankshaft pulley off of the Super A. I was using a smaller puller with a 1/2" threaded rod thru the center and I also drilled and tapped two 3/8" holes to pull the pulley off with. Well the end of the 1/2" threaded center rod had a swivel point on the end. That piece is now stuck in the end of my crankshaft. At least I havnt cracked the pulley yet. I guess what I need is a split bearing puller large enough to go over that pulley and then maybe a little hydraulic bottle jack. Yesterday was not one of my better days! Any suggestions.

Big John and Hugh, I dont have the 1/2" threaded rod stuck in the crankshaft, it is a cone shaped piece that attached on the end of that screw. Anyway, Im going to borrow a large split bearing puller from a friend which would pull from backside of 6" dia. Use two 1/2" threaded rods to a fixed plate that I would rest the base of a hydraulic bottle jack and use a short piece of 3/4" round bar stock between end of jack and crankshaft. I hope that works, because if it doesnt Ill be pulling the crankshaft. Ill keep you guys posted.

Is the crankshaft threaded where you can screw a bolt in but not snug up against pulley and push against bolt head?..as for forcing screw tip..... .I would try a smaller shaft with a slightly smaller hole then the forcing screw tip then heat and install over tip.....let cool and work it around if it isn't real tight you might get it to work out....good luck...

Thanks, Thats a good suggestion, the tip of that pointer just sticks out past the end of the crankshaft. The good news is that there is a 3/4" hole thru the pulley. So I took a piece of 3/4" steel rod and put a small hole in the end to go over the piece that sticks out the end of the crank. The 3/4" rod would then rest against the end of the crank to allow me to press the pulley off.
Thanks

Scotty just take a deep breath and relax. Your approch to removing this pully is very interesting and might just work. It is unconventional to say the least.

The screw shaft on your puller is stuck in the pully. The crankshaft has a flat smooth end that the pully snugs down to. The center of the pully is hollow to accept the end of the hand crank.

I am not sure how you would use a bottle jack in this operation, don't think it would work. A split bearing puller fits behind the pully and then using a two jaw puller, pulling on the split bearing puller you should be able to pull the pully off. I have always had to use heat from and act. torch (sometimes quite a lot) to heat the pully to get it off. Most if not all two jaw pullers have a point on the end of the screw shaft instead of the flat swivel head on your bar type puller.

My suggestion to get your puller out of the pully would be to screw it back out the reverse way that it went end. When doing this the bar that the bolts go thru would be down tight on the face of the pully.

GOOD LUCK

Scotty: You know better than that. You know what I am always saying about these Scotsman, especially one with Scot in his name. We're just a cheap bunch.

Seriously though the piecs you speak of is inside the hole for the hand crank. Right or wrong? If so you will have to remove that first or a proper puller will just swell the piece. I am afraid I may not follow you in description of problem so will stop there until you tell me more.
