we took a farmall c to bare metal, undercoated,
gave two coats of IH paint with gloss hardner.
Still looks dull.
Any idea what we can do to give a third coat
that will have a decient gloss level?

By any chance did you have different parts of the tractor near by when painting? I found out that if you would paint, say the hood, get it away from the other stuff you are painting or have the other stuff far away while it drys. The finest amount of over spray going threw the air will land on a good paint job and dull it out while it is trying to dry.

Hank, I just painted my Farmall B last week. The first time it was too hot and I got an orange peel finish, so I resanded and this time added more thinner and painted on a cooler day. The second time I got a real nice smooth coat. As some others said, you need to put on just enough paint so it is almost ready to run but not quite. You need to keep it from drying too fast as it will flow for quite a while after painting if you don't have it in the sun or in the wind where it will dry fast. Also, a good spray gun makes a difference. I used to have one of those cheap spray guns and since I bought one of those HVLP guns I have been getting much better results. Roger

in hot weather you might need a slower drying thinner.

if there is high moisture in the air that wont make a good paint job. paint a thin coat then wait until it is "sticky" then paint your heavier coat.
