I replaced the seal around the steer rod that does into the steering gear box of my International A. However, it continues to leak. Anything I might try to stop the leak? Thanks in advance.

I inherited the Super A - in our family since 1975.
The steering box is also leaking oil everywhere - I checked the drain-plug. To my horror, a mass of water [as in H2O] pee'd out, followed by only a little oil.
Temporarily, I have filled it to top with clean engine oil, to displace the water, while I figure out next step.
So what exactly is "00 grease" as mentioned in a Reply Posting from Mr Jimmy King ?

After you get it sealed use 00 grease it will flow but not run out like oil. Hay rake is the only thing it won't stay in works real good in bush hog boxes. Gun grease will chanel out. I don't know about srink sleeves ask at your auto parts store.

When I rebuilt mine I found it packed full of grease. I cleaned that out, put in all new seals and gaskets and lo and behold a year later it is leaking in several places. I have since found out that this is a common problem with the design and the most common fix was to drain the oil and pump the gear box full of grease. Something which I plan to do this year myself. I figure the grease I took out was probably 30+ years old knowing the history of the tractor and the gearbox is in great shape.

Larry, If you are still getting a leak from that seal chances are that the steering shaft has a slight groove warn into that spot. The old leather seal was wider which gives you the option of moving your new seal location just slightly to a spot on the steering shaft that is not warn. You also can take out the shaft again and install a shrink sleeve on that spot to build up the diameter.

It is full of grease, which continues to come out making a mess. I think you are probably right in that the shaft is probably worn on a 50+ year old tractor. What is a shrink seal and where do I et one? Thanks

No one suggested checking the vent. Small hole in the top plug. Gearbox gets hot and blows grease out? Just a thought.....
