my 460 is hard to take out of gear sometimes if I have the TA handle in the forward position..but if I have it pulled back {where it runs slower}it does not [hang up] so bad..some times I have to move the tractor ahead or back to get the bind of the shifter..thanks

I have the same problem with my 460U. I adjusted all the linkages as outlined in the IT manual. That made problems worse. Did it twice and still worse. I then lengthened the linkage that attaches to the TA lever. This has fixed the problem. I can shift in high or low now. I have found that with really worn tractors, you sometimes have to ignore the directions and adjust until the thing works.

I did a similar thing with my 1940 Farmall A and the governor linkage. Adjusted it to factory settings and made things worse. Took up all the slack and it worked fine.

Best of luck.

I think that's true for alot of things. They aren't new anymore, and you have to account for backlash.

Ajusting the main clutch and TA linkage is definetly where you want to start. You'll need to get yourself a manual, there is no room for error while doing the TA ajustment, which makes it too hard to explain over the internet.

You need to adlust the clutch linkage first, the TA clutch must reliese the same time the main clutch or it will hang in gear and sometimes bad if adjustment is off alot.

The shifter fork is worn out on the bottom and it is not grabbing the rails enough so take it off and replace it or if your luckey you can find a used one. Its a common but simple problem to fix. Good luck.
