Can`t find forth or fifth gear on my 1949 os-6 farmall.I haven`t checked into it yet.Could the shifting lever itself be the problem? All of the other gears work fine.Just wondered if anyone else out there ever had this problem.
Thank`s for any help,Fred.

Fred: Sounds to me like the end of shifting fork is worn. The last time you shifted out of 4th gear the fork came out of rail without bringing 4th-5th gears right to center, thus you cant access the notch in the 4th-5th rail. You should pull the shift lever and check this out, as it can get bad enough it leaves tractor in 4th and you go on to 3rd and find your self locked in two gears. It is a simple fix build end of shift lever up so it nicely fills the notch in one rail. I always like to build it a bit oversize and grind until it shifts good. Most of them are almost 1/4 x 1/2 on the end with corners slightly rounded. Whem you have lever out line the rails up with long screwdriver, making sure they are all in neutral.
