I just bought a Super A awhile back, and plan on restoring and useing it for light farm work. And today I just noticed something different about the rear wheels, the one farest away from the motor is solid cast, and the one on the the motor side is not. Does anyone know if it was made this way? But the solid cast wheel, is mostly covered in rust but it has flakes of dark orange paint on it. Could it be off an allis chalmers tractor or something.

Matt: Gosh the Super A guys are out in force tonight. Must be almost overtaking the H guys. As dave said cast wheel is to balance offset design. Come on Super A guys keep more Super A questions on page one than H questions.

Hey all this SA info is great for me since I just bought one (first tractor owned, too). I'm learning lots, keep the questions and great answers coming!

Hugh or any off set tractor guys. Has anyone ever weighed each side of a Super A/100 or 140 to see just how balanced they are from side to side?

Red: I was at an antique pull on Sat. As far as I'm concerned the best puller there was a guy that pulled two MH 44's in same class, one gas and one diesel. The two tractors were within 30 lbs of each other. He had them weighted so front wheel were slightly bouncing as weight hit front of sled. They had to clear more real estate for this guy on both pulls. He went 75 feet with weight at front of sled. No one else in class got the weight to front of sled. It is all smarts and balance. There was a guy there in another class with a W-400 they should have given idiot prise of day.

Red: No in all my years I have never done that. I will say this however, as a percentage of their own weight they will give all tractors a run for the money. My Super A has pulled a flat bottom stone boat weighing 3 times it's own weight. You try that with other tractors, very few will do it. My thoughts are, based on that, they must be quite well balanced. I have seen a couple guys at pulls with left wheel set wide and right wheel set narrow, looked like an attempt to balance tractor, they didn't pull worth a damn.

50 years ago we had tractor pulls based on that criteria in my hometown. SA SH and Cockshutt 30 were the tractors to beat. You try that with a M, Oliver 88 or Cockshutt 40.

They were made with one wheel cast to balance the weight of the offset design
