I have rebuilt carbs on all three of these models. I purchased NAPA rebuild kits for each. The kits come with a fiber tipped needle for the needle and seat. The needle sticks in all three since there is not enough fuel pressure in a gravity feed system causing the tractor to cut out due to fuel starvation. (I've serviced the rest of the system ie. filters, tank etc. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone have a solution?

Bob: I put this type of kit in a Farmall 140 this spring. I had a few problems at first with float adjustment. I think I have it cured by now. I'm probably not much help as mine was doing the oposite. Mine came from a NAPA competitor, may be they should pool their resources.

My own personal opinion is the crapy gas we get today is most of the problem.

I assume you mean a neoprene-tipped float valve seat.

Bent floats are a major cause of needles sticking. I don't think I've ever identified a soft-tipped needle as the problem. If one of the floats is too close to the reservoir wall it will hang up until you bang on the carburetor.

They can be a bear to get straight.

Also, the float should move freely on the shaft with the needle in place. I have had a rough spot on the top of the float hang up on the needle.

Thanks Andy, That's the conclusion we came to. I think the float was rubbing the carb wall, and prevented it from dropping the whole way. Fixed it yesterday and it seems to be working now. (That was on the 560), will have to analyze the other 2.)
