Doggoneit!!!!! The old generator on the '48 M doesn't want to get up in the morning anymore. As a temporary (I do mean temporary!!!), can I use the 12v generator off the 504 I've got sitting out back. She's waiting for me to get off my duff and do a total makeover (like the ones they show on that E channel) This will give me enough time to get the one on the M rebuilt. I will still run the 6V regulator ( since it's new anyway). I'll put an extra coat of clearcoat on the 504 if it will work?

I think, "here try this" is right, but does you M have a mag? I don't think IH had gotten around to putting distributers on everything in 1948. If so your generator has a cutout relay, not a voltage regulator, so I don't think it will work. If it does have a mag, disconnect your non-working generator and cutout and crank it, or use another 6 or 12 volt battery to start it. A good battery will start your M many times before you have to recharge.

Regulator not cutout, distributer not mag.

In that case take your generator AND voltage regulator to an electrical shop and have it (them) repaired. Probably cost you less than $100.

I forgot that your regulator was new. But, the local place wants both of them anyway so both can be adjusted to work properly.
