The hydraulics on my 140 have taken to surging really bad. So much so that the mower deck literally bounces up and down. I drained the reservoir and took out the screen tonight. The fluid in the reservoir seemed to be under considerable pressure and was hot. This does not seem right to me. Is there a relief valve somewhere that is not functioning properly? I really don't know much about these touch control systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Steve

The first time that I changed the hydraulic fluid in the touch control of my C I got a surprise and a bath. Learned the hard way to crack the filler plug first and vent off any built up pressure. The fluid will get hot after running it for a while. The fluid is continually circulated through the system. The pump is a gear pump and is pumping anytime the motor is running. I changed the fluid in mine a couple of months ago. Filled it right up to the top of the fill hole. After running it for about 1 1/2 hours I blew the expansion plug out of the side of the control unit. $3.48 US a new expansion plug plus $5.00 shipping and handling.

I inherited a 140 with Fast Hitch. It also had bouncing hydraulics. I did buy both the owners and repair manual from IH. I adjusted the linkage from the control levers to the hydraulic unit and that solved the problem. I think that the books did not specify that as a cure for the bouncing condition, but having nothing else to try, I followed the book adjustment procedure exactly.

Bus Driver: That is the way I see it also. I've had 6 of these in my time and have had this happen more than once. It's just the levers out of time with rockshaft. I find it usually happens by the frame around the levers getting bump and moving out of position. I have found also, it's usually the lever you are not using at the time causing the problem. Quite and easy fix really, and yes not in the manual either IH operators or IT service.

Steve: I responded to your e mail on this matter, however I did get a note back from your server saying it couldn't delivered. It shows up on my set as sent. So until I hear from you I will just pass on this.
