I have a M that when driving in any gear has a roaring or growling sound. What do I need to look for?

I will do as best I can with this . a BRILLIANT tractor guy just told me about this with M's H's maybe others? Where the driveshaft goes into the front of the rear assembly there are 2 main bearings that about 4-5 inches apart when one starts to wear it does not sit well in the second one therfore you get the "howl" when moving. You will need to pull the top plate off to service these.

sounds like a bearing problem if it would happen to be a inner axle bearing your bull gear could be wearing a hole in the transmission case would help to know if you have noise with transmission in neutral and clutch engaged

Our 49 M has done the same thing for as long as I can remember. My Dad was the second owner and bought it in 53, the rear end has never been apart.

Bob The noise started almost all at once and seems to be getting worst.Has yours gotten worst or just stays the same. I really am at a do or don't point.
