I have a 48' M with no spark. I replaced the points, condenser,& coil in the mag. It seems to have a short grounding out the ingition. I checked the kill switch and it is working fine. But I am still getting a short to frame at the ignition. Any help or ideas? thanks, Jim.

Have you tried to start it with the wire off? Also may want to check where the wire screws on to the mag for a bad spot.

Sometimes it is something simpler than we look for. We get involved in a bigger process than we need to. I have been working on my 1952 M for over a month in my spare time with the same type of problem. I just got it started two days ago. I ended up with a corroded contact. I took each electrical contact off one by one. I then sanded each contact point and wire connector to a bright surface and used dielectric grease on each connection. (I bought the dielectric grease in the electrical department at a home improvement store. It costs less and comes in a larger quantity than from the auto store.) I turned over the tractor and TADA.

Good Luck

I HAVE REMOVED THE WIRE TO THE MAG, BUT EVEN WITH IT REMOVED I IS STILL SHOWING A SHORT TO GROUND AT THE WIRE TERMINAL. I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE COULD CAUSE THIS TYPE OF SHORT IN THE MAG. I DID CHECK MOST OF THE WIRING FOR SHORTS AND FOUND BARE SPOTS TO FRAME AND REPAIRED THEM. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO REMOVE THE SHORT IN TO TAKE OUT THE COIL, BUT IF THE COIL IS IN THE MAG. I STILL SHOW A SHORT TO THE TERMINAL (WITH THE POINTS OPEN).EVEN WITH ALL THE EXTERNAL WIRING REMOVED IT SHOULD FIRE THE MAG. RIGHT? (AS IF YOU WERE HAND STARTING )
