Hi All,
This is a little off topic but I will be using my C for this project so I thought I could get by with it.
My driveway (crushed rock over gravel base) has a 90 degree curve in it. Over the years the curve has become banked to the point that it now traps water and snow in the bottom of the 'banked' curve. I want to build this low area up so that the curve is level with the rest of the driveway.
Can someone explain to me the proper way to do this? Do I need to get some kind of rock to build that area up with or can I do it with dirt? Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated. I am clueless.
Thanks!!

Mitch, I took your advice and started grading down the high point of the curve and found that I had plenty of material I could move to the low side. Unfortuneatley about half way through the project the water pump went out on my C. Now I have a new project.....

If you need more or better material, use crusher run to build up your base then topcoat with gravel. My driveway is 7 years old and over 1200 feet long on the side of a hill. I had all kinds of problems with the downhill side track washing out in places 2-3 times a year until I built it up with crusher run two years ago. It packs in much better than any gravel and holds up well to surface water. I have since topcoated once with 2 inches of 57 limestone.

Good Idea.

Crushed stone would definantly be my first choice. The only reason I didn't use it on my driveway is the cost. We live closer to the river rock pits. Trucking eats us up on limestone.

Steve: I will not comment on how to do it as you already have good advise. I will dwell on what created the problem. By the tone of your post it sounds as though this problem evolved in the past 5 years. I think you told me also the time frame in which Mrs. Mason got her Harley, just a thought. Someone is obviously driving too fast on curve in drivway. I don't suppose it would ever be you.

Hey Hugh, I have to admit that my lovely wife has contributed to this problem. It's not her Harley tho, it seems that ever since she got her Dodge Intrepid she has come under the idea that she is Dale Earnhardt Jr. and our driveway is Daytona.
If I don't get this banked curve fixed I am going to have to install bleachers and pit areas. I wonder if I can slow her down by banking the driveway to the outside....

Steve: I had same problems with my good wife back in the 70s. 74 and 79 Olds both 400-4 barrels. A school teacher I encountered her several times on road. She loved to put those Oldsmobiles through their paces. Slowed her up a bit one day when police had a radar set up in a 30 zone at edge of village, heading to some nice straight highway. He clocked her around 58 and let her off with a warning as she had no record. She was quite gentle with the right foot for awhile after that.

You may have a good idea there. You could set an inlet in the inside of the curve and pipe the storm water out - Pull all your slack material to the outside and "high bank" the curve - and have a ball seeing who can go around it the fastest!

Man! . . . Think of the fun!

Steve, I do a lot grading with a 1066 and a Woods 1400 rear blade. I'm no expert, but I have a lot of experience under my belt. Look close - sounds like the driveway material in the inside of the curve has got pushed to the outside of the curve by all the traffic. You may have all the material you need for the repair on the outside of the curve. You'll be surprised how much loose material you will generate while giving your drive a good grading. I've had people tell my after I graded their drive, that it looked like I added gravel. My drive is about 600' long. I grade it often and it stays in pretty good shape.
Hope this helps,
Mitch

Thanks Mitch - you are exactly right (see my response to Hugh for how it got this way)
I'll give that a try and see how much I can correct that way.
