My H was running fine, now not so fine. I was fine tuning the carb, I turned the fast idle screw in until it started to run rough then out until it runs smooth when my troubles seemed to start. It pops when I accelerate it and lower the rpm (and doesn't accelerate smoothly like before) . It makes now what I think sounds like a popping noise. Could I have valve problems now?

Bottom screw is main jet, idle mixture screw is at top front of carb -- both are adjusted the same way, with the engine hot. Turn in until rough, out until smooth. Main jet at full throttle, idle jet (self explanatory) at idle. Set the idle rpm with the throttle stop screw, above the idle mixture screw. The main jet and the idle mixture both have to be adjusted correctly to get rid of the hesitation. May take 2 or 3 tries. Otherwise you need to clean the carb and/or you may have an ignition problem. Remember that turning the main jet screw in LEANS the mixture, whereas turning the idle jet screw in RICHENS the mixture.

We did some further work to it. My buddy adjusted the carb better. I cleaned and gapped the plugs. It is running better but still has like a crackel and slight hesatation when I pull the throttle. My friend was thinking it is the high humidity here , I have a mag.

This is how I adjust my M's carb. I put it in road gear, full throttle, lock up the brakes, and let the clutch out slowly to the point it breaks down. It doesn't do that now, since it is now set. When it idles, can you see alot of smoke coming out the exhaust? That would tell you that it is getting too much fuel. Should be balanced to the point that you can barely see smoke. Could be that you timing is off too. Good luck!!

You might very well have loosened up some gunk by bottoming out your screw. Valve problem doughtful if all you did was mess with the carb. Run some fuel injector cleaner or some other gas additive cleaner to see if you can dissolve your problem. If that doesn't do the trick, completely clean and rebuild the carb. Might be due for it anyway????
