I recently acquired a 240 Utility and was told the tractor goes through starters pretty often. that's all I know at this time until I get the tractor to my place. Does this seem like an electrical problem or some type gearing problem. I had a truck once that did that and it turned out to have a bad flywheel.

If you start with a good new or rebuilt starter, there are a few things I can think of that might ruin one that you can look for.
If it's a hard starter and you grind on it for long periods of time which overheats the starter motor.
If you have too small gauge cables to it so the starter is run undervoltage constantly.
Poor alignment of the starter that causes the drive gear to bind.
Bad ring gear that causes the starter gear to bind.
The first two should be easy to detect and correct, the last two would take closer examination, but should be correctable.

The term "goes through starters" could mean different things. It it wears out the bendex it could be a bad flywheel. If it the starter itself, perhaps it was replaced in the past with the wrong starter or something. Just have to see what happens I guess.
