Noticed with interest your question about the B-450 top cover. I've never seen a B-450 but they are a blood cousin to all our Australian built Inters of that era. The Aus. built tractors had an opening exactly opposite the gear shift lever, and it was used to top up the transmission fluid. The cover cap was held on by three bolts identical to the gear shift mounting bolts.
Hope this is of some use, if not, ignore it. Regards, Redfan.

Thanks for the info. Usually, if the top has the extra 3 bolt hole on a US tractor it would have the casting underneath to mount reversed shifter forks. Sometimes the casting would be machined and drilled for the forks and sometime not. I would be curious on the B-450 which is the case, or if it is even cast for reversable forks. I havn't actually seen a Farmall B-450 in probably close to 30 years and I checked with the remaining Case/IH dealership at my old home in Mississippi, which is the old Case dealership, several years ago and they have never seen a parts book on a B-450. I just always liked the B-450 and this reversable top idea surfaced when we were talking about cotton picker tractors with Guy Fay a couple of days ago.

There were two B 450 tractors at the Red Power Roundup in Bloomsburg. One was just accross the way from me. I talked with the owner. Restoration was quite a project. He got engine parts from Australia, which fits with what you said.

The owner's name of the tractor across from you was Robert Menefee. I supplied him with the engine parts for his tractor. I was pretty stunned when my suppliers from Austrailia came in with a lower price than those from the UK. Robert did a beautiful job on the tractor, and is quite informed about some of the parts upgrades that are available.

I'd like to find parts suppliers in Austrailia for my British made Ferguson FE35(gas). Can you provide any sources? Web sites or email would be best but I'd be glad of any suggestions

The sheet matal and the Standard Vanguard motor are not at all the same as The US made ones so it's hard to find parts here.

Thanks

The Doncaster built English Inters were exactly the same in most respects as our Geelong built ones. Engines were of the pre-combustion chamber, glowplug start arrangement. The English ones went to a bigger bore on the last models for extra power whereas the Australian ones resorted to higher revs for their power. Put a lot of strain on that three bearing crank. How to start an International B450 Tractor
1.With your right hand, turn the heater plug switch to 'on', while the palm of your left hand is on the 'pepper pot' heater plug indicator. 2. When the skin on the palm of your hand is about to burn off, pull the starter lever.
"Rur rur rur rur rur rur....."
3. After half a dozen or so attempts, get a friend with a Massey and a long chain to tow start the tractor, which by now has a dead flat battery.

Sorry about that, but the B450 we had was one of the finers pullers I have ever encountered, but oh! what a battery eater.

Redfan: One exception, Canadian winters. We couldn't get the original B-250 and B-275 going from Nov through April without a Super C for a pup start. Super C probably wouldn't have tow started the much heavier B-450 on ice and snow.

Cruel, Roy.
I know where you're coming from though. A lot people thought the same way about our glowplug Inters. But anyone who took care of the batteries had a very economical hard pulling tractor.
