I want to check the timing on a 544 gas. The manual identifies the timing spec and I have the markings on the pully BUT I can't find any reference pointer. The manual simply tells me to "take tractor to International Harvester dealer for this". Thanks. Steve

That's a C-200 four-cylinder. I haven't worked on any of those, but it is the four-cylinder version of the C-301 in 806 Gas, so here's what I know about the six-cylinders, it should apply to your four-cylinder. If you are checking timing at the front pulley, the reference mark is cast into the front cover. You REALLY have to have a clean engine to be able to find it. Look at the clutch housing, on one side there is a small plate held on by two 1/4" bolts, remove one bolt and slightly loosen the other, underneath is a timing pointer, and removing both bolts could allow it to move around. Use the timing marks on the flywheel.

Thanks. I removed some of the front sheet metal last evening and located 2 very, very small pointers. They align with the pully markings. They were partially hidden by the shet metal, the lower radiator hose, AND the frame for the ARPS loader. It will be a challenge to get the light into position. I'll check the flywheel.
