Looks like it has an F-4 mag which may have replaced the E4A or the Dixie if it had that type. Also Regulars have (I think 2) holes in top of the hood for the spark and throttle levers to go through, the spark and throttle levers mounted on the steering wheel post. They might just have the spark lever hole though. A parts book can be of great help identifing years.. just start looking up numbers and check the one that are serial number specific. Check a bunch of them and it will give you a good idea what was replaced and what is original.

Since the tool box is still on this tractor, did you look for the serial number plate on the rear of the box facing the operator?

I've checked the toolbox, and find no number. But I am about to take a wire-brush to it and break through some crud. Hopefully that reveals the plate.

I'd be very careful with a wire bruch- the plates tend to be very soft, and anyway, the nuber is stamped, so you may scratch it out.

THe engine number is probably pretty close to the chassis number- again probably a 28.

I've managed a number from the top of the left frame rail... just directly in front of the radiator. That number is 30999.

The number on the tool box appears to have been removed or torn away at one time or another. There is a small corner left of a plate which appears to have been riveted onto the toolbox. If that is, in fact, a serial number plate, it is long gone.

The number stamped into the engine still looks like OC31351. I've tried to make a QC out of it, but can't. Perhaps it was a weak stamping?

I want to thank all who've responded, here and by email. Hopefully there's enough info. now to pinpoint a year? Wishing you all a very pleasant and safe holiday weekend!!

I guess you haven't been able to find a serial number? I think it is supposed to be on the left side of the transmission.....

That applies to the Letter series and above tractors- F-Series and regulars typically have the plate on the tool box under the tank. Some tractors have an additional serial number stamped on the left frame rails.

Thanks, Guy. I was looking at the suggested location under serial numbers on this site. And thanks for all your other good information and books.

there should be a serial number on the framerail on the manifold side of the tractor. ours is a 29 and the number is located underneath the air cleaner, on our 39 f20, it is located near the clutch pedal...hope this helps
