What lubricant should I use in the pto rear unit housing? How do you tell which kind it is: planetary or clutch? Having heck of a time trying to figure it out. Thanks for any help.

Fred: The planetary pto unit is flat on back with shaft in center of flat surface. The unit across the back is quite square and probably just a shade over a foot each way. The clutch type has a recessed round area around the shaft, probably 7-8 inches in diameter and 2" deep. It is also kind of rounded on the outside giving it a smaller appearance. The engage lever for the planetary is mounted right on side of unit whereas the lever for the clutch type is mounted on chassis of tractor with a linkage to pto unit. I should qualify that lever item, that is how they were on my Farmall 300 with planetary and 560 with clutch type. The 340 however having the same configuration as utility tractors may be different. Are you aware also there may be two clutch type pto? If not send me an e mail and I'll tell you what I know on this. Any questions don't hesitate.

Fred: I sent you an E mail and it was returned as undeliverable. On the photo item, by all means send me a photo. That is the sure way.
