I am fixing a Farmall B for a friend and it will not charge. Here is what I have tried so far:

-I had the generator tested. The polarity was wrong so I had it changed to pos. ground - I thought this was the problem.

- I thought the regulator might be bad so I took one off of another one of my tractors that I know works. Still nothing.

- I grounded the F terminal on the gen. - still nothing. What am I missing.

If you grounded the F terminal on the generator, it should charge. If it did not, about all that can be wrong is the generator has not been polarized. Do that by momentarily connecting a wire between the gererator "ARM" or Gen terminal and the battery terminal of the regulator. You will see a spark. Be sure not to touch any other terminals with the battery wire, as you can ruin the generator or regulator. Also, I must note that the mounting bolts of the regulator must have a good ground or you will get nothing. If you have a new paint job, the paint can be insulator enough to keep the regulator from working. You may need to run a ground wire from the regulator mounting lug to a good ground elsewhere on the tractor.

Make sure you have all components grounded properly. I have seen many charging system problems traced back to a ground
