Has anyone built a 3 point for their M or H? Anything a guy should look out for?

I just built a 3 pt. for my '49 H this spring. I spent about $300 on it and that doesn't include putting the 2 spool valve I added or some of the extra hoses. I fabricated it such that I could use the original drawbar and supports (like the Saginaw) but made it with a lot of used iron too so I "engineered" around parts I had to keep the cost down.

It came out excellent, and I have only one change I would make if I did it again (nobody else would even notice it, just me).

By designing it to make use of the original drawbar, etc... it should bolt right on to my 560 if I ever want to switch it around.

I can take pictures this weekend and e-mail next week if you would like to see it. I'll be baling the next few days so no time till it rains or I am done.....

That would be great if you could take some pictures for me. I would just like to get some different ideas for mounting the lift cylinders and such.

Thanks!

I posted pictures in "parts n pieces" gallery, and a few in the "tractor" gallery by mistake, until I found you can't post parts pictures there. Sorry! Just search for 1949 Farmall H.

I used 3/8" steel for most of the fabrication, except where the cylinder attach, there I used 1/2". The 3 point arms are Cat. I arms from the farm store. I cut a third one in 1/2 and used each end to make the top link arms.

I got some excellent adjustable turnbuckles for the arms at Olton Welding (http://www.oltonwelding.com) for about $15 each I think it was. They have lots of other useful parts too.

The cylinders were a pair I had, 2" x 6", they can lift more than the front weight of the tractor can handle as I can lift it of the ground if I'm not careful!

Everyone on here seems to talk up the Saginaw Tractore 3 Pt. I don't know what your plans are on using it. I have an M and plan on purchasing a Saginaw unit. Good luck!
