Just bought a used Woods L59 belly mower to go on our 1945 Farmall A. The previous owner had no manual to go with the mower. He used the mower on his 140. If anyone has a drawing on how to mount this mower, I would appreciate it. Here is how I have it now. I put the mounting bracket in front of the rear axle. This puts the idler pulley pointing toward the back. Bought a new belt from the local woods dealer. I put a 3/4 twist in the belt from the mower's center blade pulley to the upper idler pulley. I put a 1/2 twist from that pulley to the drive pulley. No twist from the drive pulley to the lower idler pulley. Then 1/4 twist from the lower idler pulley to the center blade pulley. I tightened it as hard as I could. The belt wants to ride up on the drive pulley and twist around. Maybe I'm not twisting in the right direction. HELP!

I have a Woods L306 on my A, I would imagin that the belt would run about the same.

From the top mower drive pulley to the top idler is 3/4 twist clockwise when viewed from the back of the tractor, from top idler to belt drive pulley 1/2 twist, from belt drive to lower idler no twist, from lower idler to mower drive 1 1/2. Looking at these figures they don't add up but that's what the belt looks like??? You need it tight like a drum too, I use a 6' pry bar with someone else tightening up the bolts. I can send you a pic if you like.

When looking forward from the rear of your tractor, both belts twist in a clock-wise direction. The belt leading from the upper idler back to the drive pulley has another 1/2 twist, also clock-wise.
Check your belt for tension after two hours of use. Keep it real Tight.

Good luck
