I've bought my second Farmall, which I think (from the only book I didn't give away, is an early "A". The only "number" I've discovered in an early survey is 6832DA on the floorboard. A website suggests that that number area indicates 1940 manufacture, but I don't understand the DA.

that is not the serial number it is a part# Serial# will be below #1 spark plug on a smooth place rite behind the throttle rod. Should also be on a plate on left seat bracket in front of pto pulley if you have a FARMALL A

The picture book says it's an "A", but there appears to be a piece of metal welded where the serial number should be behind the throttle rod on the block under the #1 plug.

The seat is clearly aftermarket, and I can find no number anywhere near it, now that I've cleared the debris away.

Also, at least one picture book shows a universal joint on the steering column (a la "C"'s) but this one goes straight to the box.

There are casting (part?) nubmers on a bunch of the components. Any ideas on how to determine build year?

Jim
