Greetings from Alaska
I recently purchased a 1944 Farmall A tractor with a belly blade. I would like to acquire a pull behind brush cutter/brush hog. Anyone out there using one or knows about one that works well with this machine?
Thanks GWD

Gary: I pulled a 5 ft. cutter with my 1941 A for several years but in South where grass grows fast and thick the 5 ft. was a litttle too much sometimes a 4 ft. would have been better suited. You will need adapter to adapt 1 1/8 PTO shaft on A to modern 1 3/8 size ( may be off on shaft sizes) one with override clutch would be best. Will need threaded adjuster to use in place where hydraulic cylinder would normaly go. You should avoid sharp turns as much as you can to protect U joint if you must make short turn I have found it is good to take PTO out of gear until straightened out. I have found that hooking to drawbar off center so cutter shaft lines up with tractor PTO works best. Most any brand cutter should work OK. Hope all this rambling might help.

NDS, what is that threaded adjuster that you talked about. I'm trying to find a pull type cutter for my 140. Thanks

Its a crank handle to raise and low the cutting height of the brush hog. Some have a hydraulic cylinder to do this.

Also is seems like the pull type brush hogs throw more trash forward, It might be that the opening is larger. I added a some short bits of chain to act as deflectors.

I don't have much problem with tight corners, my mower has a long hitch and thus a long drive shaft = less angle on the cornering. Also with a pull type mower, reverse is nearly impossible.

Good luck and be careful - i.e. no kids or anamals around.
