According to Fay's book ( page 46 )the two point "Fast Hitch " was not available on the Super C until 1953. He missed a bit on this fact because I have my Dad's late 52 model ( serial # 154595 ) that came from the factory with fast hitch. So does anyone know what the serial number was for the first Super C FAST HITCH?

Was the two point hitch available on any other Farmalls in the early to mid 50"s? I have never seen one on a M , Super M , MTA or any of the H series tractors.
Thanks

IH offered kits to put Fast Hitch on Farmall Cs after the hitch came out, so you'll see FH on tractors I think back to 1948, even through the hitch itself wasn't available until later. Same deal with Super MTA's- kits were available.

WHen the first tractors with Fast Hitches came from the factory is harder to answer- technically, Fast Hitch was an option, and existing documentation doesn't tell much about when options were first sold. Parts books aren't much of a help, mainly cause the same parts were used in the kits, so tractor serial numbers weren't helpful (I'll check what I have later today).

The initial drawings and idea for Fast Hitch were done either in 1949 or 1950. It took awhile to get into production (actually, it wasn't that long by how these things go)- IH needed to test hydraulics, implement combinations, etc. I'll buy that some 52 serial numbers may have had FH from the factory- the dates I used were based I think off the initial sales bulletin.

Guy: I remember IH dealer having a Super C with fast hitch, plow, mower and a platform carrier on display with some other IH equipment at a local fair. I can't be definate on which year but it was either 52 or 53.

I remember this as they held a competition for young drivers to manuver a 4 wheeled wagon through a course of fence posts with coke bottles on top of posts. Some of these you drove through, while others you backed through. You had you choise of that Super C or a Super A they had on display. I took part in this being 10 or 11 tears of age, and I'm a 42. If I remember the prises were put up by IH, Coke and Purina. I think everyone that made it with less than 5 bottles on the ground got a prise, with the winners getting more.

I think my super c is a 52 but hard to tell with the serial number plate corroded like it is. Pretty sure though. It came with a fast hitch and some other goodies too. Firecrator pistons. I bought it from the original owner who ordered it that way he said. I also have a 300U LP that has a fast hitch but I am not sure of the year on it. I haven't even started restoring it yet. I am still debating over wether to convert it to gas or not. It would be more practical these days, at least for me, since we don't have propane in any quantities at the house and I don't think it is any cheaper here anymore either.

Bud: I in fact think fast hitch was available on the Super C right from the very first one produced. What IH said, and what IH did, have been clearly two entirely different happenings. This has been clear for many years. I think there may also have been a few single point fast hitches on Super A.

Bud - I also have a 1952 Super C with a fast hitch. We purchased it from an estate farm auction and the widow told us her husbanc always had that tractor as it was, and ... his favorite. It has the single front wheel, common here in Wyo. A great usable IH tractor. And, we have a '53 Super C with it too. Both have their ID tags still on. I am sure they came with the fast hitch. I have an IH large multi-page flyer all about the fast hitch and their uses, in color, from a May, 1953 issue of California Farmer. I think this is when the "big push" on the fast hitch was on for the farming industry. But, I am not sure on any exact dates for when that was first introduced. The Super C tractor started in 1951, I believe. So, it would be interesting to me when the fast hitch really made its entry to the IH line. I imagine there is some documentation about when this occurred somewhere.....

IH apparantly planned the fast hitch for some time, as even the straight C's rear end is drilled for it and it can be retrofitted. If your dad bought the tractor new, then he should know, otherwise it was probably retrofitted by the dealer. It could also have been on the dealers lot until the fast hitch Super C came out, then the dealer installed the fast hitch and sold it new to your dad. Did your dad buy the tractor in 1952 or 1953? The Super MTA rear end was also drilled for fast hitch, but other than the Super C, fast hitch first appeared on the numbered series: 100, 300, 400, and of course the Super C's replacement, the 200.
