Hey guys, I was loading some stuff on a platform I use on the back of my Super A, when I noticed that the left rear tire had a bit of a tilt to it. Upon closer inspection, I see that the axle housing flange had cracked, almost completely around, and that the whole assembly was "leaving" me. What a nightmare that would have been, if I was going along when it happened! The tractor was still driving normally, atleast I haden't noticed anything up til then. The crack was pretty new, as the mud on it was split as well, and there was no rust in the crack.
Anyway, I'm going to pick up another housing from a parts yard saturday and do the change over on mine. Any hints on this procedure? I have the manuals, but experience is the best teacher. thanks for the time and help...
T.

Tony, Changing that axle is not an easy job. It involves removing the bottom pan on the final drive housing to drain the oil. Then you remove the inside cap and take off the nut on the end of the shaft. Then after removing the four bolts on the outside bearing you can pull out the axle. You need to keep track of the pieces as to what order they are on the shaft. I used one of those hammer type pullers to pull the axle out as it doesn't always come out easy. After you get the axle out, then you have to press off the bearing to get the outside flange and bearing off. Then you will have to press on the bearing. It isn't too difficult a job, but not simple either. Roger

I have never done a SA, but I've had an axle break on a Super C and changed it out...I think you'll find this a relatively easy task. I'd pull the tire and wheel and take some emery paper and clean the axle really good (to avoid it hanging on the bearing and seals), and simply slide the axle housing off. Pretty straight forward stuff....I reused my bearing and seals, and haven't had any leaks...
