I have a 1929 McCormick Deering 10-20 and am tying to determine if it has the E4A or F4 magneto. I couldn't find any type of identification on it but may have missed it. Is there any way to tell the two apart by looking? Reason I ask is I found a web site that sells custom plug wire sets for this tractor. They list a differant wire set for each magneto. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi RJ, I have a 29 also. 29s all used E4A mags unless they had optional lighting packages. Those seem to be VERY rare! They had a small generator curcuit in them to run the lights, kill the engine and the lights went out. When I say lights, I am not sure if they had just one spot light that mounted on the right fender or if some had two lights mounted on the rad sides. I would have to go look that up! Mine had an F-4 mag on it when I got it, but I found an E4A to put back on. E4A has an Impluse trip lever that you have to set before starting. The old timers love to see me flip the lever before starting it!Brings back old memories for them and I have fun with it too!
