I have an IH 1066 that seeps oil at the 1000rpm pto shaft. Is it possible to R&R this seal without removing the PTO unit? How much oil should be drained from the system before the seal is removed? Thanks in advance for your help.

Like Redman says, drop frt.into deep ditch then pull complete pto out and disassemble to get to seal.

Yes you can take out this seal. Drill a small hole in the seal and screw in a sheetmetal screw, and use a pair of pliers to pry the old seal out. You can drain about five gallons of oil out, or drive the front end into a ditch so the oil moves to the front of the transmission. The 1000rpm shaft seal is the easy one to change, the 540rpm seal has to be replaced by taking the pto unit out of the tractor, and tearing it apart.I hope this helps. Chris

i don't know if you can r&r the seal or not but you can remove it by driving the front into a road ditch or other drop off.

Thanks to all for the information. The ditch idea is a clever suggestion.
