Going to look at a '83 IH 3688 this weekend, any areas I need to pay particular attention to? Any other helpful comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The big thing is probably the TA. On the 3088 series, the TA is shifted electronicly. The speed lever allows you to select 8 speeds with 2, 4, 6, and 8 being direct drive, the same as 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the 706-1486. Shifting to 1, 3, 5, and 7 engages the TA. It's supposed to be a much better setup than the mechanical shift linkage on the older tractors, because it can't come out of ajustment. The other big thing to check is the cooling fan, which sits in front of the radiator and is driven by a shaft that sticks though the radiator. I belive there is a bearing in the radiator that the shaft rides on that needs to be checked. Other than that, check it out just like you would check a 986. We just got a 3088, great tractor.
