On a 1951 H, my step father bought this tractor new, and he says that it had 6.00 x 16 on it then, but most of them that I see have 5.50 x 16s on them, what is correct ? I am getting a new pair for it and would like to know for certain, Thanks, John

In our area H's came typically with 5:50X16 and M's came with 6:00X16 or 6:50X16. My 2 cents.

John: All of the H tractors that came our way when new had 6.00 x 16 or 6.50 x 16. I never saw a new one with 5.50 x 16 I would guess 80% of them in our area were 6.50 x 16 The 6.50s gave much better flotation and that was important in Eastern Canada. I will not argue that the 5.50 and 6.00 were not popular on some of the firnmer soils in the middle of the continent When I see these tractors at shows today with 5.50 and 6.00 I think how odd looking. Depends on where you came from.

Thanks Hugh, I have never seen one with 6.50s on it, mine with 6.00s on it doesn`t leave very much room between the top of the tire and the bottom of the post assembly. So I guess that I will go back with 6.00s again.

John: I agree the 6.50 only leave a fraction of an inch clearence. On the narrow front you can set them in so it is almost like a roller. We found them a bit harder to steer but they carried up well on our softer soils.
